Madeleine Kay has been a Quaker for over twenty-five years. She joined the Equipping for Ministry Course at Woodbrooke four and a half years ago, after retiring from working as a children’s occupational therapist. She discovered Focusing at about the same time, and found it extremely valuable in her own spiritual journey. She was struck at the similarities between the Focusing experience and the descriptions of early Friends’ spiritual experiences, and made exploring this the topic of her EfM project. She has also completed her Focusing Practitioner and Focusing Trainer qualifications (as recognised by The International Focusing Institute) with Complex Trauma UK in Leeds.
Carol-Ann Hooper is a Quaker who came to Focusing in 2014 whilst in the midst of taking early retirement from an academic career in social policy - her interests had included child/human development, gender and sexuality, equality and diversity, trauma and recovery. She found Focusing hugely helpful in relation to her own personal and spiritual journey and now has an Advanced Focusing Certificate from Complex Trauma UK in Leeds. She has also trained in person-centred counselling and interfaith ministry in recent years, and draws on her learning from all these as well as from her life experience in her practice of and passion for Focusing.

This weekend will introduce Focusing, an approach to self-care and healing, accessing personal truth, and deepening spiritual experience used by many Quakers. Through pausing, going within, paying attention to the felt senses in our bodies, and offering compassion to whatever we find, we can grow in awareness, self-acceptance, and peace.

I have just returned from a retreat that was held at Claridge House. I can`t recommend it highly enough, the friendly staff, fabulous vegetarian food , beautiful gardens and the lovely clean and airy rooms all added up to an absolutely wonderful stay - June 2017
Our first visit here and we certainly feel we are going away with `rest and renewal`. We enjoyed the comfortable accommodation, had a lovely massage and the daily quiet times were also very special for us - January 2017
The room was spotless and very comfortable, the vegetarian breakfast was gorgeous, lovely fresh produce, dairy free and gluten free items too. Tranquillity and peace all around in the lovely 2 acres the house is set in - June 2017
Everything. Lovely friendly staff. Good food. A cosy "feel at home" style place amongst trees and green, giving peace and calm. Surely would stay again! So close to Gatwick Int. Airport. That`s a real convenience for foreign travellers - November 2016
Wonderful and welcoming staff, who were very attentive and happy to help. Beautiful property with large clean rooms. This is a health retreat as well as b&b style accommodation, so no TV in the rooms or alcohol. Very close to the village for dinner or drinks though - October 2016
