`In the winter she curls up around a good book and dreams away the cold.` - Ben Aaronovitch, Broken Homes

In the winter, the daylight hours are limited, most creatures have flown to warmer climes, are hibernating or are doing their best to survive the harsher conditions and most plant growth has come to a halt.  For the natural world this is a time of slowing down, withdrawing inwards and conserving energy to prepare for a new start in spring.

In the human world, we often regard winter as a time to be endured.  With the busyness and the excitement of the Christmas festive period behind us, we stumble into the New Year struggling with the short hours of daylight, grey, cloud heavy skies, the incessant rain and cold temperatures that keep us inside and longing for the lengthening days and the first signs of spring to appear.  What however if we were to embrace the slower, more internally focused energy of winter?  If we could allow ourselves to enter our inner worlds more fully, and hour our need for stillness, reflection and creativity?
