This weekend will introduce a Quaker approach to Focusing. Focusing was originally an approach to healing and personal development developed by Euguene Gendlin and is used by many Quakers to access personal truth, deepen spiritual experience, aid discernment and build mutual support and community.
It involves paying attention to the information available in our bodies about our life experience, past or present, and opening to the fuller experience of emotional and spiritual well-being. Learning to allow what blocks us gradually and safely to shift enables us to be open to the light or, as some might describe it, experience the compassionate Christ within.
Focusing has some similarities with experiment with light, developed within Quakerism by Rex Ambler, and some differences. Focusing is usually done in pairs, taking turns to be Focuser and Listener/companion/witness. it can be a way for Quakers today to live as Isaac Penington described the Quaker community in early days “our life is love and peace and tenderness; and bearing one with another…and helping one another up with a tender hand.”
The course will be an opportunity to pause and go within, learning to identify bodily felt senses, and offer them gentle curiosity, respect and complete acceptance. In this context information and insights often emerge, allowing transformation to occur, small step by small step.

I have just returned from a retreat that was held at Claridge House. I can`t recommend it highly enough, the friendly staff, fabulous vegetarian food , beautiful gardens and the lovely clean and airy rooms all added up to an absolutely wonderful stay - June 2017
Our first visit here and we certainly feel we are going away with `rest and renewal`. We enjoyed the comfortable accommodation, had a lovely massage and the daily quiet times were also very special for us - January 2017
The room was spotless and very comfortable, the vegetarian breakfast was gorgeous, lovely fresh produce, dairy free and gluten free items too. Tranquillity and peace all around in the lovely 2 acres the house is set in - June 2017
Everything. Lovely friendly staff. Good food. A cosy "feel at home" style place amongst trees and green, giving peace and calm. Surely would stay again! So close to Gatwick Int. Airport. That`s a real convenience for foreign travellers - November 2016
Wonderful and welcoming staff, who were very attentive and happy to help. Beautiful property with large clean rooms. This is a health retreat as well as b&b style accommodation, so no TV in the rooms or alcohol. Very close to the village for dinner or drinks though - October 2016
