Madeleine Kay

Madeleine Kay has been a Quaker for over twenty-five years. She joined the Equipping for Ministry Course at Woodbrooke four and a half years ago, after retiring from working as a children’s occupational therapist. She discovered Focusing at about the same time, and found it extremely valuable in her own spiritual journey. She was struck at the similarities between the Focusing experience and the descriptions of early Friends’ spiritual experiences, and made exploring this the topic of her EfM project. She has also completed her Focusing Practitioner and Focusing Trainer qualifications (as recognised by The International Focusing Institute) with Complex Trauma UK in Leeds. Carol-Ann Hooper is a Quaker who came to Focusing in 2014 whilst in the midst of taking early retirement from an academic career in social policy - her interests had included child/human development, gender and sexuality, equality and diversity, trauma and recovery. She found Focusing hugely helpful in relation to her own personal and spiritual journey and now has an Advanced Focusing Certificate from Complex Trauma UK in Leeds. She has also trained in person-centred counselling and interfaith ministry in recent years, and draws on her learning from all these as well as from her life experience in her practice of and passion for Focusing.
